Alex works with her horses to get them soft, willing and alert, as once these qualities are automatic, any physical maneuver desired by their rider is easier to obtain. Both horses and riders are each treated as individuals, and Alex does not enter into training with an expectation of how long things will take. She simply aims to work as efficiently as possible, and get horses and riders to the best place she can at the end of each session.

In working on this, Alex gives horses a basic foundation of practical skills that prove beneficial regardless of their intended discipline. These include engaging both the front and hind quarters, a solid stop and back, moving the shoulder, smooth transitions, being comfortable stepping up onto solid objects and bridges, having their feet handled, having ropes swung around them, picking a rider up off a fence, crossing water and opening and closing gates. Horses will be ridden both in and out of the arena, throughout the ranch and off the property to build their confidence and keep them interested.

Monthly Packages

Full training services are geared towards colt starting, re-educating horses with behavioral issues and furthering a horse’s education. A horse in full training will receive individual work at least five days per week and the package includes full board.

Part-time training services are geared towards the started horse that needs some fine-tuning and/or consistency in their training. A horse in part-time training will receive individual work three days per week and this also includes full board. On the horse's off-days, owners are welcome to use the indoor arena and attached trails.

Both packages include one lesson per week with the owner to ensure that the horse and the owner will be able to safely communicate when the horse is no longer in full training. While taking advantage of this weekly lesson is highly recommended, owners who are not available for weekly lessons must have a minimum of one session with Alex and their horse upon entering the horse into training and one when they are ready to take their horse home, to make sure everyone is on the same page.
